I don't know if this idea would fly or not but every year when they board up the fountains at the Rose Garden, I regret that I've never mentioned it to anyone.

Wouldn't it be 'cool' if the black wooden casings for the fountains could be turned into fresh art every year? Participating families, groups, classes would each get one panel to paint. Maybe a 2 to 3 hour event with hot chocolate, coffee and cider if it's on the cool side.

It would become the last official outdoor event of the season.

I realize there are likely some problems with the idea but 1) at least it's out there 2) someone had to get this blog started.

Hey Eddie! I think that is a fun Idea.

The warm coco and soothing part may be pushing it, But I dont remember the coverings being BLACK? I could be wrong but I thought they were plain plywood colored plankes.

And not attractrive. I would welcome an artististic creation to blend into the winter snow. even with a black base. Good Idea!!

Anyone?

I think a 360 degree painting of the fountains itself might be fun??

Too Bad I am not artististic though...

Good idea! We need to get you in touch Mary Lerman,. She runs the Rose Garden. The Minneapolis Parks Board would probably need to get involved in any decision making, too.

One of these days I'm going to make the meeting. It starts in 8 minutes and I still haven't gotten around to dinner or contacting my sister-in-law for her birthday.

Before talking to Mary, I was hoping for more of a framework. I mean "who are we going to have painting those panels"? The panels can't already be 'up'...the area inside the fountain would be too crowded and wouldn't like the abuse of ladders and paint. I imagine the panels laid out on the ground...largely that space between the two fountains. But, who are the painters?

Perhaps several classes from The Barton School each take a panel. What other schools, teams or groups might be interested? Would it be a contest? Would there be a theme?

I like Joe's idea of the fountain image but--for that image to be at all consistent the entire way around--it would restrict the fun to professional artists.

Douglas, when I finally make my first meeting, I'll look you up. In the meantime, I hope a glimpse or two of inspiration will show up on the blog.
