7th Annual Bicyclist and Pedestrian Count

Minneapolis Public Works is gearing up to conduct its 7th Annual Bicyclist and Pedestrian Count and you can help! Volunteers will be asked to count the number of bicyclists and pedestrians at several locations around the city. The main days for counting will be September 10-12. Most counts are conducted from 4:00-6:00 p.m., although there are shifts throughout the day at select locations.

The City of Minneapolis conducts bicyclist and pedestrian counts in order to understand the impact of non-motorized travel on streets, sidewalks, and paths. Accurate counts enable the City to plan and build for bicyclists and pedestrians, while tracking changes in traffic.

Caution Needed For Drivers, Pedestrians and Cyclists

The Minneapolis Police (MPD) are urging all drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists to use caution on the roads.  There has been a dramatic increase in accidents involving vehicles with pedestrians or bicycles in the past few weeks.

Warmer weather brings out additional walkers and cyclists, especially in entertainment districts and downtown.  Drivers need to exercise more caution and walkers and cyclists need to be aware of their surroundings and watch out for themselves.

The MPD have stepped up enforcement of drivers not yielding, pedestrians jaywalking and cyclist not obeying the rules of the road. This enforcement effort is aimed at preventing accidents which result in life changing events for families.

Bicycling and Walking Classes

The city of Minneapolis is offering over 40 rides, walks and classes to help you get back on the streets and trails. There is something for everyone, families, adults and 55+ Walking and Biking Series.

No registration required, just visit the Minneapolis Bicycling and Pedestrian Program website and find events that interest you.
